SRAM Grip Shift - First Look

I remember waaay back buying my first mountain bike, a sweet as 1997 Cannondale F500. I was running flats, rocked a fluro yellow jersey and had no clue about the spec however what sticks in my mind is that it had Grip Shift. Dumping gears with just a flick of the wrist made things simple and it sure was part of some great memories in getting hooked on bikes.
Jump forward just a few years and whilst Grip Shift never went away it did drop off from SRAM's top offering once 10 speed was introduced. It was still available in 9 speed however with the 2013 product season Grip Shift has been reworked and relaunched into the twisty 10 speed market.

Originally I was researching, I was looking at getting some custom jerseys and crew shirts made for Worlds when I came across Champion System (CS).
Through the handful of manufacturers I eventually whittled it down, with their unlimited design and colours, reasonably small minimum and not outrageous turn-around I was keen to get the ball rolling with CS.

News coming out of SRAM HQ last week will be grasped with joy for the love of 10 speed has been spread to Grip Shift.
Grip Shift has been around since the 1990's and I personally remember my first 'serious' mountain bike back in 1997, a cherry red Cannondale F500 decked out with none other than Grip Shift (8 speed from memory?!)
Here's some of the press release from SRAM on Grip Shift with the products expected to be available from April 2012....
The original SRAM Grip Shift burst onto the scene in 1990, when Greg Herbold used it to win the first- ever Downhill World Championship.
As XC and DH racing grew in global popularity, elite racers grew to embrace Grip Shift. XC legends John Tomac, Ned Overend and Thomas Frischknecht swore by it. Downhill stars like Anne-Caroline Chausson joined Herbold in adding it to their arsenal.

Today, athletes are riding farther and harder than ever before, pushing the limits of component technology. It's time for the next chapter in Grip Shift history.
Designed for SRAM 2X10, the all-new Grip Shift has been reengineered from the inside out. And, in true form, its inaugural race was Jaroslav Kulhavy's 2011 XC World Championship win.
Simply put, it's one of the most advanced shifters ever created. UNRIVALED PRECISION Precision-built, Grip Shift has been reengineered from the inside out, making it one of our most technically advanced shifters ever.
Designed for no-holds- barred, high-performance racing, Grip Shift handles any conditions with ease. Grip Shift will be available in both the XX and X0 families, compatible with all SRAM 2X10 product families.
10-Speed XX and X0 Grip Shift will be available April 2012.

It was a natural progression really and now mountain bikers can really SRAMify their steeds with the introduction of SRAM’s first mountain bike wheel offerings, the SRAM Rise 40 and Rise 60.
We’re yet to get our dirty hands on a set of the hoops so for now we’re going off the media release issued by SRAM.
