There are many adventure sports to do in and around Bright including mountain and road bike riding, paragliding, rock climbing, abseiling, horse riding, 4WD tours and much more. There is also a lot to do if you feel like taking it easy including great bush walks, wine trails, local produce farms to explore, take the kids to the enormous playground right in town at Centenary Park or out to the giant maze in Wandiligong, go panning for gold, catch some local trout and more. There are many event weekends held throughout the year including the Audax Alpine Cycling Classic on the long weekend in January, the Hot Rods take over the town on the weekend after Melbourne Cup each year, the Alpine Valleys Gourmet weekend held in mid January, street markets and much more.
Top 5 things to do: 1. Pine Forest Singletrack. Ride from the centre of town and be on pine forest singletrack within minutes. Wind your way up the valley before railing the flowing trails through the pines. With a whole network of trails you can link together hours of riding mixed in with fire trails to get your breath back.
2. Wineries. Visit the wineries in the region. There are a number of world renowned wineries in the region including Brown Brothers at Milawa. The cool climate makes for perfect growing conditions for the grapes. To find out more about the wine trail visit www.brightvictoria.com.au or www.kiewaview.com.au/winery_tour
3. Natural Scenery. Enjoy the natural scenery and the Ovens River that runs through Bright. Go for one of many walks in the area including the Canyon walk which starts right in town. Take the lilo's or a tyre tube and float all the way from Bright down to Porpunkah along the river, this can be done all year round even when the river is low.
4. Delicious Food. Enjoy the local produce. There are many places to experience the local produce including the Deer & Emu Tourist Farm at 324 Hughes Lane Eurobin (between Myrtleford and Bright) where you can feed and pat deer, emus, goats, chickens and more and enjoy lunch or a bite to eat at the Red Stag Restaurant. Around the area there are fresh chestnuts, walnuts, blueberries, cherries, olives, green tea, lavender, trout, salmon and the list goes on and on.
5. Paragliding. Take a 2 minute drive out on Morses Creek Rd to watch the paragliders and hangliders take off from Mystic Hill and land in the landing zone, or if you are up for it try it out for yourself. The 'air' above Bright is known around the world to be among the best for paragliding.
